Kula is a fintech social enterprise using blockchain technology to create transparent, equitable ownership & development of natural resources for the communities they belong to.

The name comes from the Kula Ring — history's earliest recorded cross-border trade system, where goods traveled one direction & reciprocal gifts traveled the other. That original model of mutual exchange is exactly what KulaDAO is trying to bring back: a transparent alternative to the opaque, extractive practices that have long cut local communities out of the development of their own resources. I wanted to hand them a brand that honored that origin story visually while feeling fully at home in a modern fintech context — credible on a crypto market board, compelling on a white paper, & meaningful to the communities it serves.

The system starts with a graphic K built from flowing lines that suggest both the directional trade routes of the Kula Ring & the textile patterns of the regions they work in. An "opening frame" motif — panels that appear to flip & layer — extends into a set of regional DAO marks, each combining a country, its primary resource, & the periodic table notation for that element into a single cohesive graphic.
